Ms. Christine Semambo Sempebwa, the outgoing Executive Director of Forum for African Women Educationalists, Uganda Chapter (FAWEU) has handed over the mantle to Ms. Susan Opok Tumusiime.

The former Executive Director, served for five years 2013 – 2017. During her tenure, registered a number of milestones - developed the five year strategic plan 2013 – 2017; mobilized resources, strengthened governance structure for the Organization, enhanced partnerships with government agencies through the Ministry of Education and Sports; Civil Society Organizations, district authorities and schools right from Primary to Tertiary level.

Ms. Susan comes with a wealth of experience spanning over 10 years in development and humanitarian programmes in Education for vulnerable and disadvantaged youth. She’s led organisational change management processes, engaged with education in post conflict and development; and health systems strengthening, through support to primary health care- HIV/AIDs management. Susan has also supported implementation of Adolescent and Sexual Reproductive Health and livelihood micro projects for vulnerable and marginalised youth, women and men in central and northern Uganda. In her various capacities, she’s worked closely with government of Uganda, both at the national and local levels, and development partners. Susan has engaged both locally and internationally in resource mobilization.

Susan has previously, served as Country Director, at Nurture Africa and Promoting Equality in African Schools (PEAS) Uganda; worked with Windle Trust, Uganda (Acholi Bursary Scheme). She lectured the Bachelor and Community Development class at the National Institute for Special Education (UNISE), Kyambogo University, and recently provided programmes management support to Aids Orphans, Uk project at Little Rock ECD centre, Nairobi. She is a founding Director of a local micro credit institution, Enterprise Development Finance (EDF) supporting youth and women in Naguru slum, Kampala and in four districts in northern Uganda.

Susan holds a Masters of Science (MSc) in Management of Natural Resources and Sustainable Agriculture from the Agricultural University of Norway, MSc in Environment Science, Makerere University and B.A (Arts) in Economics and Philosophy, Makerere University. She consequently possesses great exposure and rich experience, which we believe will benefit FAWE.
