BUILDING CAPACITY OF FAWE UGANDA BOARD ON CORPORATE GOVERNANCE

On April 20th – 21st, 2018 FAWE Uganda held a two day training for its Board members at JICCA Hotel. The training focused on enhancing the knowledge of the Board on best governance practices and procedures to ensure effective management and operations of the Organization to achieve its mission and Vision.


The training was attended by 10 Board members including the Board Chair, treasurer, secretary etc. It was also attended by the top management of FAWE Uganda including the Executive Director and Human Resource Manager. The training was facilitated by ICSN firm in Uganda.


Mrs. Susan Opok Tumusiime, the FAWE Uganda Executive Director in her opening remarks said that, “We believe that a strong culture of compliance and responsibility starts from the top, hence the rationale for the organization’s Board of Directors to go through a thorough and comprehensive, relevant and efficient training to enable them make sound decisions on behalf of the organization to guarantee its daily operations and achieve success.”


The training was conducted in a systematic way and segmented in different sessions including identifying the Board’s areas of strengths and weaknesses, finding possible solutions to address the weaknesses and any other challenges, good practices and procedures in managing Board meetings, roles of the Board/Board Chair and effectiveness in addition to strategy development and evaluating performance. At the end of the training, the Board made commitments and developed an action plan to improve on their effectiveness.
