Kevin Wandera

My name Kevin Wandera from Namayingo District pursuing a national certificate in Plumbing and Fitting at Young Men Christian Association (YMCA).
It was on the Friday morning of 23-06-2014 when we discovered that the body of my lovely father was lifeless. We didn’t believe it at first until the doctors declared him dead. We were in shock. The post-mortem revealed that he had died from snake venom.
I personally never believed it until I saw him being lowered into the grave on 1-07-2014. That is when I accepted that my father was no more and that he had gone to glory.
My father worked as a herdsman at a farm where he was getting all the facilitation to look after the family and to pay for our studies. From the time he passed on, nothing remained the same since we had lost our primary caretaker.
About two months after his burial, the situation began to worsen. This was caused by his relatives who turned against us and started stigmatizing our family, that we had sacrificed him to get wealthy.
I am the first born in a family of 3 (2 boys and 1 girl). I was in primary seven in a remote school, Sibiyirise Primary School under index number 012347/080 but with all that was happening, I stayed focused until I finished my primary level and managed to score 15 aggregates.
Another tough journey was how to join secondary school for further studies since there was no hope for money to push me to the next level. Because I had performed well, the enmity from our relatives went to another level, and they decided to grab all the property that father had left behind to the extent of leaving us with a grass-thatched hut and nowhere to do some farming. This African boy child still had hope of becoming a water engineer.
A few days after the academic year had started in 2015, when I was supposed to join secondary level, I still remained at home for another week. By God’s grace I heard a nearby secondary school had advertised for a job of a school cleaner, which I applied for and got. I would wake up at dusk to clean then at 8:00 am go attend class. I worked in that school for 4 years until I successfully completed my ordinary level in 2018.
During the early 2019, there was a man who was in need of someone to make chapattis and roast chicken, so I took that as another blessing in my life since I needed to know where Kampala was. The man rented for me a small house in Kanyogoga and I would work from Namuwongo trading center along Muyenga road. I worked really hard since we had agreed that at the end of every month he would be paying me UGX100,000. To my surprise, when the month ended he claimed that I had made a loss and that he would not be paying me. I felt betrayed!
One morning I saw an advert for KK Security Company being in need of security guards. I decided to take another step in life and applied. I went through the interviews and was taken for training.
At KK Security Company, I was deployed at the FAWE Uganda head office in Bukoto where I was attached for more than 10 months and that’s how I got to know about the work of FAWE Uganda.
One morning I saw an advert on the FAWE Uganda noticeboard calling for applications under the FORBERG scholarship scheme at the vocational level. With the conversation and a piece of good advice I got from Mr Calvin Okello, a FAWE Uganda staff member, I applied. I was given a bursary and a chance to go back to school.
My facilitation from FAWE Uganda is so sufficient that I always use some of that money funding to facilitate my two siblings. One in Primary Seven and the other in Senior One.
FAWE Uganda is a God-sent organization because, throughout my whole journey, I have received all the money that I am meant to receive, so I refer to it as a corrupt-free organization.
I really thank MR.FORGERG and FAWE Uganda, for saving my life and securing my future.
LONG LIVE MR. FORBERG AND FAWE UGANDA STAFF.
FOR GOD AND MY COUNTRY!
