Alumni Activities
FABA alumni activities bring together former FAWE Uganda scholars who now give back to their communities. In fact, the FAWE Alumni and Beneficiaries Association (FABA) was formed to keep this spirit alive. Since 1997, FAWE Uganda has helped thousands of girls stay in school. As a result, many alumni return to help as volunteers, mentors, and supporters of girls’ education. In particular, below are some of FABA’s recent alumni activities, from caring for nature to health outreach and community support.
Alumni plant 25 trees to signify 25 years of FAWE Uganda
On Friday, 4th November 2022, FAWE Uganda alumni, staff, teachers, and learners planted 25 trees together. The trees were shared across three schools. These were Kisuule Primary School, Kitante Primary School, and Trinity Primary School. Notably, this activity marked 25 years of FAWE Uganda’s work in girls’ education. It also showed how much the alumni care for nature. Indeed, climate change is one of today’s biggest global problems. In fact, small, local actions like tree planting can still make a real difference.

Alumni give back to the community
FAWE Uganda alumni continue to give back to their communities in many ways. On Saturday, 20th August 2022, a team of FAWE Uganda staff and alumni visited Mulimira Zone in the Bukoto region. There, they held health talks and shared why educating young people matters. They also offered career guidance to learners. In addition, the team carried out a community cleaning exercise. Overall, this visit shows FABA’s ongoing care for the community, not just the classroom.

Alumni outreach to schools
From Monday 2nd to Tuesday 9th August 2022, FAWE Uganda organized a week-long school outreach program. Moreover, during this time, alumni and staff held educational talks with primary and secondary school children. The FAWE Uganda alumni led the outreach, while FAWE Uganda staff gave support throughout. Consequently, more young learners got guidance and mentors. Ultimately, this kind of outreach is at the heart of FABA’s mission to give back.

Raising awareness on Menstrual Hygiene
On 14th-15th July 2022, FAWE Uganda alumni partnered with Hope Awareness and Literacy Club (HALC), a local community group. Together, they held a Menstrual Hygiene Awareness campaign in Kyankwanzi District. Notably, the campaign tackled menstrual stigma, a hard topic to discuss. It also encouraged open talks between young people, parents, and local leaders. As a result, more families in Kyankwanzi District feel comfortable addressing menstrual health openly. Overall, this kind of grassroots work is exactly what FABA alumni activities aim to achieve.
