FORBERG

In 2019, FAWE Uganda received funding from Mr Forberg Lars from Sweden through Social Initiatives and has supported and created opportunities for 75 academically talented but financially constrained students with full education scholarships to get a tertiary education and that at least 85% of them get employment or self-employment generating sufficient income. The program supports students from the vulnerable districts of Moyo, Agago, Abim, Kween, Namayingo, Luuka, Amuria, Napak and Nwoya.
The Program is targeting disadvantaged youth and is linked to the development of their communities, whereby recipients of the bursaries will not only better their lives and those of their families but will be required to contribute to the transformation of their communities and regions while on the program and after graduating.
The objective of the program is to;
(i) Enable students from the selected districts to complete higher education; and
(ii) Provide academic and psycho-social support and facilitate pathways for the students to internships, industrial practice and employment.
In order to equip the students with the skills needed for them to succeed, FAWE Uganda has provided these students with adequate preparation during their studies, including job readiness training/school-to-work transition, mentoring and internships and research.
The students are pursuing degrees, diploma and certificate courses from different learning institutions; Gulu university, Busitema university, Mbarara University of Science and Technology, Nile Vocational institute, Jinja School of Nursing and Midwifery, Medical Laboratory Training School, UTC Elgon and Young Men Christian Association and Law Development Center.
