On the 9th September 2018, FAWEU staff members discussed and agreed to start monthly contribution to support one or two girls to access, stay and complete school. All the staff members present in the meeting consented to the idea that finance shall do monthly deductions for the scheme.

Proposed Criteria

1. Students Application Procedure for candidates joining secondary school
  • A hand written application clearly explaining the need for a bursary, indicating the name of the parent/guardian, village of residence and the Sub-county.
  • A recommendation letter from her/his primary school head teacher
  • A letter from the local Council 1 (LC 1) of the area of residence.
  • A copy of the most recent Primary Leaving Education (PLE) and UCE result slip
  • A map of the applicant’s home for ease of location during the verification exercise.
  • An active telephone contact for easy reach.
2. Who is eligible for the staff bursary scheme?
In order to qualify for the bursary, one must fall in the following category:
  • Applicant must be a girl child who must have passed PLE / UCE with first or second grade only.
  • Applicant must be joining senior one or five in 2019.
  • The degree of need is paramount. Must be from economically disadvantaged background. We look for very needy girls who without support cannot join school due to financial constraints.
  • Children who are orphans, physically disabled, affected by HIV/AIDS and those who have excelled in Science and Mathematics shall be given priority.
3. Which category of schools are we going to work with?
One excellent way to support better learning, retention and completion is to place a student in a great school which offers a clean and well organized environment that is conducive for learning, school which has supportive teachers, administration, reliable support staff and efficient service providers, school that works to build safe learning environment for students among other qualities.
