FAWE UGANDA STAFF BURSARY SCHEME

FAWE UGANDA STAFF BURSARY SCHEME

On the 9th of September 2018, FAWE Uganda staff members met and agreed to start monthly contributions to support one or two girls to access, stay in, and complete school. All staff present at the meeting consented to have the Finance department process the contributions as monthly payroll deductions for the scheme.

Selection Criteria

A. Students Application Procedure for candidates joining secondary school
  • A handwritten application clearly explaining the need for a bursary, indicating the name of the parent/guardian, the village of residence, and the sub-county.
  • A recommendation letter from the applicant’s primary school head teacher.
  • A letter from the Local Council 1 (LC1) of the applicant’s area of residence.
  • A copy of the applicant’s most recent Primary Leaving Examination (PLE) or Uganda Certificate of Education (UCE) result slip, as applicable.
  • A map of the applicant’s home for ease of location during the verification exercise.
  • An active telephone contact for easy reach.
B. Who is eligible for the staff bursary scheme?
In order to qualify for the bursary, an applicant must meet the following criteria:
  • Be a girl child who has passed PLE or UCE with a first or second grade.
  • Be joining Senior One or Senior Five in the applicable academic year.
  • Demonstrate genuine financial need: preference is given to girls from economically disadvantaged backgrounds who, without support, would be unable to join school due to financial constraints.
  • Priority is given to children who are orphans, living with a disability, affected by HIV/AIDS, or who have excelled in Science and Mathematics.
C. Which category of schools are we going to work with?
One of the best ways to support better learning, retention, and completion is to place a student in a great school.
We look for schools that offer:
  • A clean, well-organized environment conducive to learning.
  • Supportive teachers, administration, and support staff.
  • Efficient service providers.
  • A safe learning environment for students, among other qualities.
