Board Chairperson
Christine Oryema is Doctor of Philosophy in Science – Ethnobotany from Gulu University; She also holds a Master of Science in Botany of Makerere University; A Post Graduate Diploma in Education from Gulu University; A Bachelor of Science Botany-Zoology) – Makerere University.
Christine Oryema is currently working as a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Biology of Gulu University and has held this role from 2014 to date; She has previously served as Lecturer in the same Department and University from 2006 to 2013; She has also worked as Senior Environment Officer at Gulu District, Environment and Wetland Officer at Gulu District Local Government, Fisheries Officer at Nebbi District Local Government. She is the immediate former Vice-Chairperson Board of Directors of FAWE Uganda.

Board Member
Deborah Basekanakyo Wesonga is an Educationalist who has been in the Education field for more than 30 years. She holds a Master of Arts in Educational Management from Makerere University; A Bachelor of Arts with Education from Makerere University.
Deborah is currently serving as Head Teacher at Wanyange Girls Secondary School; She has also served as Head Teacher for Kisiki College Namutumba and Kigulu College; She has served as Classroom Teacher at Agkhan High School, Nakasero High School and Mackay College.
Deborah has served on the FAWE Uganda Board since July 2019.

Christine Apiot Okudi is a Development Specialist who has been in the field of development work for over 20 years. She holds a Master of Arts in Development Studies from Uganda Martyrs University Nkozi and a Bachelor of Arts in Education from Makerere University. She is a Fellow of the Brookings Institution, Center for Universal Education.
Christine is currently working as Education Programme Manager at the Cotton on Foundation; She has also previously worked as Academic Director at Bridge International Academies Uganda, Education Quality Manager at PEAS (U), Capacity Building Officer at the Center for Domestic Violence Prevention (CEDOVIP), Child Care and Protection Program Officer for the Great Lakes Region at International Rescue Committee, Programme Officer at Save the Children Norway/National Council for Children Uganda, Secondary School Teacher with the Government of Uganda.
Christine joined the FAWE Uganda Board of Directors on 2nd July 2022.

Veronica Nakijoba is Gender Specialist and has worked in the Gender field for over 20 years. She is currently a PHD candidate at the School of Women and Gender Studies of Makerere University. She holds a Master of Arts in Women and Gender Studies from Makerere University, a Bachelor of Arts with Education from Makerere University; A Fellowship in Migration Studies, 2010, at Oldenburg University, Germany.
Veronica has worked as an Independent Consultant from 2006 to date in the areas of Gender, Rights and Development following the thematic areas of Gender Based Violence, Children’s Rights, Disaster Management, Public Works and Infrastructure, Education and Civil Society; She has also worked as a Part-Time Lecturer from 2003 to date with the Department of Gender and Women Studies of Makerere University; She served as a Part-Time Lecturer from 2013 to 2016 with Uganda Christian University, Mukono; Veronica also worked with Uganda Gender Resource Center as Acting Executive Director and Programme Officer.
Veronica joined the FAWE Uganda Board of Directors on 2nd July 2022.

Brighton Barugahare
Board Member/Rep. Ministry of Education & Sports
Brighton Barugahare is a Lawyer and Public Policy Analyst with over twenty (20) years’ experience in public sector. He is an Advocate of the Courts of Judicature of Uganda; a Member of Uganda Law Society as well as the East African Law Society. He holds a Masters’ Degree (LLM) from Makerere University; a Post Graduate Diploma in Legal Practice from the Law Development Center (LDC); He also holds a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) Degree with Social Sciences from Makerere University; A Master of Public Policy (MPP) Degree (Merit) from the School of Government, Victoria University of Wellington, New Zealand. He is currently pursuing a PHD in Public Policy at Makerere University, Kampala.
Brighton Barugahare is currently the Commissioner, Education Policy and Research at the Ministry of Education and Sports. Previously worked as Assistant Commissioner Policy Analysis at the Ministry of Education and Sports; Principal Policy Analyst at the Office of the Prime Minister, Kampala Uganda; Senior Policy Analyst at the Ministry of Public Service, Kampala-Uganda; Policy Analyst at the Ministry of Public Service, Kampala-Uganda.
Brighton has served on the FAWE Uganda Board of Directors since January 2017 to date as Representative of the Ministry of Education and Sports.

Susan Muwanga Nassuna

Susan Muwanga Nassuna is a Representative of the Ministry of Gender, Labor and Social Development on the FAWE Uganda Board of Directors, a role she has handled since July 2019. She holds a Masters’ Degree in Human Rights from Makerere University, a Post Graduate Diploma in Planning, Management and Evaluation of Rural Development Projects from the Pan African Institute for Development, East and Southern Africa, Kabwe, Zambia; She also holds a Post Graduate Diploma in Education from Makerere University and Bachelor of Arts from Makerere University.
Susan is currently serving as a Principal Gender Officer at the Ministry of Gender, Labour and Social Development. She also worked as Senior Women Development officer at the same Ministry; Women in Development Officer at the Ministry of Gender, Labour and Social Development; She worked as Assistant Secretary/Administrative Officer in the President’s Office under the Ministry of Cooperatives and Marketing. She worked as a Teacher at Sengani Secondary School.

Patrick Onyait is a self-employed citizen with experience in issues of disability inclusion in programmatic interventions. Patrick is also a seasoned politician who has served as Councilor in Ngora Town Council, Ngora District and Chairman Finance and Administration Committee. He has previously also worked as Coordinator for Enterprise Uganda in the Teso Sub-Region as well as Chairman Disability Union of Ngora District. Patrick represents the National Union of Disabled Persons of Uganda on the FAWE Uganda Board of Directors a role he has played since November 2019.

Jackline is a Chemist trained from Kyambogo University with a Bachelor of Science in Technology Chemistry. She is the founder of Bronlin Industrial Supplies Limited, an Engineering Consultancy Firm; She has worked with Tenitech Africa Limited as Managing Director, Product Applications Manager and Quality Controller.
Jackline Auma is an Alumni of FAWE Uganda and joined the FAWE Uganda Board of Directors on 2nd July 2022.

Executive Director
Susan Opok Tumusiime is a seasoned professional with over fifteen (15years’ experience in senior leadership, management, governance. Susan holds a Master of Science in Natural Resources and Sustainable Agriculture from the Agricultural University of Norway; A Master of Science in Environment Science from Makerere University; A Bachelor of Arts (Economics and Philosophy) from Makerere University.
Susan is currently serving as Executive Director of FAWE Uganda; a role she has held since 15th January 2018. She previously served as Country Director at Nurture Africa, Country Director at Promoting Equality in African Schools (PEAS) Uganda; She has served as Team Leader/Programme Officer handling the Acholi Bursary Scheme at Windle Trust Uganda, Senior Programme Officer at Windle Trust Uganda, Acting Programme Manager at Windle Trust Uganda; Senior Programme Officer, Research and Policy at Development Research & Training (DRT); she has also served as Part-Time Lecturer in the Department of Adult and Community Education at Kyambogo University; Earlier in her career, Susan Volunteered with UNDP, worked as Food Monitor at World Food Programme, Research Assistant at the National Environmental Management Authority (NEMA) and Loans Officer at Centenary Rural Development Bank.

Jacqueline Kaija is a Finance Professional with ten years of work experience in the private sector and in Non-Governamental Organisations. She is a member of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) and holds a Masters Degree in Economics and Finance for Development from the University of Bradford in the United Kingdom. She has experience in Finance and Grants Management. She also holds a Bachelor of Science with Education (Mathematics and Physics) from Makerere University.
Jacqueline is currently working as Senior Financial Analyst (Budgeting & Reporting) at the Clinton Health Access Initiative. She has previously worked as Grants and Compliance Manager at Plan International; Grants Manager at Rakai Health Sciences Program – Uganda; Recruitment/Invoicing Administrator at The Big Word – United Kingdom; Awards Coordinator at Save the Children; Assistant Accountant at MTN Uganda; Quality Assessor at MTN Uganda; Call Center Advisor at MTN Uganda.
