My name Kevin Wandera from Namayingo District pursuing a national certificate in Plumbing and Fitting at Young Men Christian Association (YMCA).
It was on the Friday morning of 23-06-2014 when we discovered that the body of my lovely father was lifeless. We didn’t believe it at first until the doctors declared him dead. We were in shock. The post-mortem revealed that he had died from snake venom.
I personally never believed it until I saw him being lowered into the grave on 1-07-2014. That is when I accepted that my father was no more and that he had gone to glory.
My father worked as a herdsman at a farm where he was getting all the facilitation to look after the family and to pay for our studies. From the time he passed on, nothing remained the same since we had lost our primary caretaker.
About two months after his burial, the situation began to worsen. This was caused by his relatives who turned against us and started stigmatizing our family, that we had sacrificed him to get wealthy.
I am the first born in a family of 3 (2 boys and 1 girl). I was in primary seven in a remote school, Sibiyirise Primary School under index number 012347/080 but with all that was happening, I stayed focused until I finished my primary level and managed to score 15 aggregates.
Another tough journey was how to join secondary school for further studies since there was no hope for money to push me to the next level. Because I had performed well, the enmity from our relatives went to another level, and they decided to grab all the property that father had left behind to the extent of leaving us with a grass-thatched hut and nowhere to do some farming. This African boy child still had hope of becoming a water engineer.
