Forum for African Women Educationalists (FAWE) Uganda Chapter in partnership with the Forum for African Women Educationalists Regional Secretariat (FAWE RS) and the MasterCard Foundation are implementing, an eight-year (2016 – 2024) Higher Education Access Program to enable 300 young women and men (70% female and 30% male) from economically disadvantaged regions of Uganda access, and transition through higher education and secure employment in sectors that contribute to the development of their communities and country.
Each year, about 295 000 women die from preventable causes during pregnancy and childbirth, Sub-Saharan Africa alone accounted for roughly two-thirds (196 000) of maternal deaths. Women who are most at risk are living, or over the next 15 years will be living in fragile or humanitarian settings.
FAWE Uganda in Partnership with Amelo Technical Institute with support from ENABEL is to implement a skills development program in Adjumani district aimed at building the capacity of vulnerable girls, women and youth in employable and sustainable skills for better comes.
This is in response to the backdrop that Women’s rights to education and gainful employment constitute fundamental human rights, enshrined in the international human rights framework for the protection of human rights.
On the 9th September 2018, FAWEU staff members discussed and agreed to start monthly contribution to support one or two girls to access, stay and complete school. All the staff members present in the meeting consented to the idea that finance shall do monthly deductions for the scheme.
